Dance is to be present throughout all of the performances.Triad-- the simultaneous use of dance sequences, formation changes and equipment all at the same time--should be attempted throughout the performances.
Two - Three Minute Events
1. Pom
- Emphasis is on the use of poms as the focal point of the performance.
- Poms must be held and used by at least one team member 100% of the performancetime.
- Emphasis is on the blending of pom work and dance sequencing throughout the performance.
- Pom effects should be incorporated with the dance sequencing to enhance the level of difficulty.
- Emphasis of the choreography should be on the rhythm and beats of the music.
- A continuous level of dance sequencing should be present throughout the routine.
- Includes all types of dance, excluding hip hop and contemporary/lyrical.
- Any style of hip hop is permitted.
- Emphasis should be on the interpretation of the music and its rhythm.
- Emphasis is on a clearly defined story with the choreography emphasizing the emotions/lyrics of the music.
- Routines may demonstrate, but are not limited to, balance, extensions, isolations, control, contractions, etc.
- Emphasis on the use of one or more props as the focal point of the performance.
- Flags may not be used.
- All equipment and sets must be manipulated at some point during the routine, except for floor coverings.
- Emphasis is on the use of a variety of kicks (Varsity: 50 kicks minimum; JV/Jr. High: 35 kicks minimum).
- A kick is defined any time the foot is higher than the waist level, regardless of where it originates from.
- Ripples are defined as one kick.
- Repeated group work will only be counted once during that phase.
- Pick-ups are defined as continuous kicks.
- Emphasis is on the incorporation of a novel idea which must be present in costume,music and movement.Eliminating one of these elements severely affects the end result of the performance.
- A novel idea is not a reproduction of a movie, play, musical, etc.
- Dancing in a costume is not necessarily a novelty routine.
- Costume should be worn which is fitting to the theme.A costume that replicates trademark logos, of any size, are permitted.
- Props may be used.
- Emphasis is on the use of tall flags (any flag with a staff longer than 3 1/2 feet, excluding caps).
- Flags must be used 75% of the length of the routine.
- Emphasis is on the use of short flags (any flag with a staff shorter than 3 1/2 feet, excluding caps).
- Flags must be used 75% of the length of the routine.
- Emphasis is on the use of tall flags (any flag with a staff longer than 3 1/2 feet, excluding caps), as the focal point of the performance.
- Emphasis is a clearly defined story with the choreography emphasizing the emotion/lyrics of the music.
- Rifles, sabers and short flags may only be used to enhance the performance and cannot replace the tall flag usage.
- Flags must be used 75% of the length of the routine.
- Emphasis is on the use of tall flags (any flag with a staff longer than 3 1/2 feet, excluding caps).
- At least one of the following must be used to enhance the performance:short flags, rifles, sabers, ribbons, etc.
- Props and backdrops may not be used; the focus is on the use of the equipment.
- Tall flags must be used 75% of the length of the routine.
Five - Six Minute Events
1. Production
- Emphasis is to create a performance utilizing any three (3) or all of the competition categories.
- Any additional props may be used to enhance the performance.
- Set-up time is a five (5) minute limit.
- Emphasis is on the use of tall flags (any flag staff longer than 3 1/2 feet, excluding caps).
- Tall flags must be used 75% of the performance time.
- Short flags, rifles and sabers may be used to enhance the performance.
- Any additional props may be used to enhance the performance.
- Set-up time is a five (5) minute limit.
